A BRIDGE TO THE COMMUNITY

The Third Mission Institute is an applied research university institute. Its founded on the premise that every university has three main missions: teaching, research and the application of knowledge for the benefit of the community.

The Third Mission Institute is an arm of the Albizu University President’s Office that operates as a bridge between Academy and Community to facilitate the dissemination and implementation of scientific innovations in the field of prevention and health promotion.
THE THIRD MISSION
Being an effective link between Academia and Community, to implement intervention strategies that have been scientifically proven and contribute both knowledge and expert advice to the community in areas such as planning, organizational development, design and evaluation of programs, training and information technology.

our model
We work with evidence-based interventions and programs through the developmental continuum from a determinants of health framework. The Institute operates in a triad that integrates three main actors:

Tirada ITM

Implementer

It is the agency or organization that executes the Project, Program or Initiative. It is the actor in this triad closest to the service delivery.

Social Investor

It is the agency, organization or foundation that acts as a funder for a Project, Program or Initiative. In some instances, a combination of a federal and state agencies could serve as the Social Investor.

Scientific Partner

It works hand in hand with both, Social Investors and Implementers in all phases of the project to increase the probability of success and sustainability. Some of the roles of the Scientific Partner could include: applied research for a specific project; strategic planning and data driven decisions; capacity building; evidence based practice selection and adaptation; day to day technical assistance; programmatic advisory and/or; evaluation.
